The Challenge
Giving a voice to those who had lost everything…
The Road to Hell was born from the foundations of Cuecard’s earliest project, the Cuecard Project, where I would literally walk the streets, hand people a cue card, and film their spontaneous reactions to thought-provoking questions. That raw authenticity resonated deeply with people online and quickly built a following of over 10,000 supporters.
Through that growing community, one of our followers, a senior corporate professional in Brazil, reached out with an extraordinary opportunity: to produce a documentary uncovering the Venezuelan refugee crisis, one of the most severe humanitarian disasters in modern history.

Our Solution
A story that needed to be told…
Venezuela was once one of the richest nations in the world, but political collapse, corruption, and famine forced millions of ordinary citizens, doctors, teachers, families, to flee their homes. The world wasn’t paying attention. Our mission was to change that.
Funded by our sponsor in Brazil, I travelled to South America to work alongside UNHCR, Red Cross, and numerous NGOs, capturing stories from refugees crossing the border into Brazil. These were real people, telling their stories with raw honesty and emotion, the very essence of what Cuecard was built on.

Strategy & Direction
Filming on the front line…
We embedded ourselves within the refugee camps, interviewing humanitarian workers, refugees, and local officials to piece together a narrative that went beyond the tragedy, one that also celebrated resilience and human kindness. Filming conditions were intense, often in extreme heat and unpredictable environments, but the authenticity of the footage made it one of the most meaningful productions we’ve ever undertaken. We embedded ourselves within the refugee camps, interviewing humanitarian workers, refugees, and local officials to piece together a narrative that went beyond the tragedy, one that also celebrated resilience and human kindness. On-Site Production
From humanitarian storytelling to global recognition…
The Road to Hell became our first major documentary and a pivotal stepping stone for Cuecard. The film attracted the attention of major broadcasters, including BBC and Channel 4, and has since been viewed by tens of thousands of people across Brazil, Venezuela, and the UK, both online and through direct screenings.

Results That Matter
A project that changed everything…
The result was a one-hour broadcast documentary, filmed, directed, and produced independently under Cuecard Productions. Most importantly, it raised awareness of a crisis that continues to affect millions. The Road to Hell remains one of the most defining moments in Cuecard’s story, a reminder of why we do what we do: to tell stories that matter.

“When I first reached out to Cuecard, I knew this story needed to be told, but I had no idea how powerful it would become. Lance approached the project with such empathy and purpose. He didn’t just film a documentary; he gave a voice to people the world had forgotten. What he and Cuecard produced was beyond what any of us imagined, it moved people to tears and brought global attention to a crisis that desperately needed it.”
